Terrific Kids is a student recognition program that promotes character development, positive self-esteem, and perseverance. O’Fallon Kiwanis Club members worked with staff at the O’Fallon Boys & Girls Club during their summer camp to bring this program to them. The Terrific Kids program provides teachers with a tool to reward students for special achievements that may otherwise go unnoticed.
“TERRIFIC” is an acronym representing the following: THOUGHTFUL, ENTHUSIASTIC, RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE, INCLUSIVE, FRIENDLY, INQUISITIVE, and CAPABLE.
Each week during their 8 week camp, teachers looked for children that showed the above qualities when dealing with their peers. The first week was “Thoughtful”. Teachers from three different age groups selected a camper to receive recognition. Kiwanis club members brought these students a certificate, Terrific Kids pencil & sticker, bumper sticker and a kids meal from Culvers.
